What’s Happening at the Reserve
At Coal Oil Point Reserve, students, staff, and researchers are advancing habitat restoration, water-quality monitoring, and wildlife research across the Devereux Slough and surrounding coastline. Highlights include restoring native habitat at s’o’hil xus, tracking estuary health through aquatic invertebrates and a new public Water Quality Explorer dashboard, studying tick-borne disease and coastal seismology, measuring carbon sequestration in restored wetlands, and developing a solar-powered wildlife camera with UCSB’s Engineers Without Borders. Together, these projects showcase COPR as a living laboratory for ecological research and public science education.
