Nature Center

Public Visiting Hours

The Nature Center is open to the public on the first Saturday of each month from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm, or by appointment.  *Please note that the Nature Center will not be open on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024.* The exhibit area showcases research projects, conservation programs, and the natural history of the reserve.   The Nature Center is located at the end of Slough Road (here.)


Facility Reservations

The Nature Center provides working and meeting spaces for users of the reserve, such as researchers, classes, and volunteers.  The reserve and its facilities are not available for commercial or personal use.

For campus groups looking for a space for a conference or retreat, please contact the UCSB Conference Services for the Loma Peloma or West Conference Center.

All rooms must be reserved by contacting the Reserve Director (sandoval@ucsb.edu) and submitting a reserve application and reservation.

The rates below assume that the users will clean the space they use. If this is not possible, we can add a cleaning fee.

Reservations that include food and drinks have an additional $200 cleaning fee.

Meeting room

The meeting room has a 54-sitting capacity and can be used for user events such as lectures and workshops. The meeting room opens to the deck with two French doors.

Available resources: 6 tables, 50 chairs, Smart TV, Dry-erase board.

Rate: UC affiliate – $100/day, Non-UC affiliate – $158.5 /day


Laboratory

Classes or researchers can use the wet laboratory.  The laboratory has no fume hood, so toxic chemicals cannot be used in this facility.

Available resources: two tables with eight chairs.  Two dissecting and compound scopes.  

Rate: UC affiliate – $5/day, Non-UC affiliate – $7.93 /day

 


Office

Students and researchers can use the office at the Nature Center while working on the reserve.

Classroom

Classroom

The classroom can be used for small break-out groups, classes, or training.

Available resources: Smart TV, tables, and chairs.

Rate: UC affiliate – $50/day, Non-UC affiliate – $75.25 /day


Conference Room

The conference room is ideal for small meetings.

Available resources: large central table with 15 chairs and a Smart TV.

Rate: UC affiliate – $50/day, Non-UC affiliate – $75.25 /day

Kitchen

The kitchen is adjacent to the meeting room and can be reserved if your meeting includes meals to be prepared or delivered.

Available resources: Stove, microwave, pots, coffee mugs, small and large coffee pots, utensils, and serving dish plates.

Rate: UC affiliate – $8/hour, Non-UC affiliate – $12.7 /hour
